SailGP Inspire

Applications open for Chch SailGP Inspire

Issue date

SailGP is coming to New Zealand which also means the SailGP Inspire will stop in town and organisers are looking for a number of under-21 sailors to take part in the programme for March's New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Christchurch.

Inspire racing is done in foiling WASZPs and the whole programme is aimed at creating a diverse generation of new sailors. A group of young male and female sailors will learn how to sail the foiling dinghies, coached by experts, and then go racing on the same waters as the F50 catamarans.

The winner of each leg on SailGP's world series will compete in the Inspire grand final, with last season's Champion of Champions final won by New Zealand's Sean Herbert.

Herbert not only received a cash prize to support his professional sailing development but also got the chance to join a SailGP team's training and tech session at a season three event, which includes a ride on an F50 catamaran.

Applications for the Inspire programme at the New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Christchurch are open to sailors in any class of boat and individuals need to be available from March 15-18. Applications close on February 10, 2023.
