Aon youth clinics

Aon youth season about to kick off

Issue date

The new season is quickly rolling around and a number of Aon youth clinics are planned to help develop the next generation of top sailors.

These clinics include:

  • Aon New to Youth Classes Clinics
  • Aon Regional Youth Clinics
  • Aon National Youth Clinics
  • Aon Girl's Clinics

The first clinic for the 2019/20 season will be an Aon New to Youth Classes Clinics to be held on September 14-15 at the Kohimarama Yacht Club.

The aim of this clinic is to help young sailors who have moved into a youth class within the previous six months and are not already attending the Aon National Youth Clinics.

There will be coaching for those new to youth classes around boat setup, techniques and training methods as well as an opportunity to be assessed to attend national clinics and to learn more about the youth programmes. To register, see here.

The first Aon National Youth Clinic of the season will be at Torbay on September 30 to October 2. Registrations for this will also open soon.

These clinics will again have input from High Performance Sport New Zealand as well as a range of guest coaches and speakers throughout the season. It will be a busy summer in New Zealand with a number of Olympic class world championships here and in Australia.

There are also a series of youth regattas in Melbourne in January 2020, which are usually high quality fleets and provide excellent racing without having to go too far. We encourage sailors to attend if you are competitive in New Zealand fleets.

For more information on the youth programme, contact Yachting New Zealand talent development manager Geoff Woolley.
