420 Sailors compete in Europe

Four of New Zealand’s aspiring double-handed youth sailors have been getting a taste of competition on the international stage competing recently at the 420 class in Europe.

The New Zealand two-boat team was made up of Sam Lee and Sam Thomas of Charteris Bay Yacht Club, Christchurch, and Taylor Burn and Oscar Rorvik, of Queen Charlotte Yacht Club, Picton and Tauranga Yacht and Powerboat Club, Tauranga.

They competed first at the 2012 420 Open and Ladies Championships Lake Neuseidl, Austria known as the beach of Vienna from 27 July – 5 August, followed by the 420 Junior European Championships in Riva, Italy from 9 – 17 August.

 Taylor and Oscar topped the silver fleet in Austria and went on to finish 23rd overall in Riva, while the two Sams placed 24th in the Silver fleet in Austria.
