2026 ILCA 6 World Championship, Day 1: New Zealand's Greta Pilkington makes impressive start in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland
Three top-10 finishes have given Greta Pilkington an impressive start to the ILCA 6 Women’s World Championships in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland.
Pilkington punched in scores of 10th, fourth and third on the opening day to sit sixth overall in the 108-boat fleet, just four points off American leader Charlotte Rose.
The Kiwi was one of the most consistent sailors across three challenging races, raced in an offshore breeze that ranged from 12 to 20 knots and gusted up to 25 knots.
Rose leads the championship on three points after posting a 1-2-2 scoreline, level on points with Belgian two-time world champion Emma Plasschaert. Denmark's Anna Munch is third on six points, with Pilkington firmly in the mix just behind the leading trio.
The opening day featured tricky, shifty conditions on Dublin Bay, with the offshore breeze and current combining to create a challenging, choppy racecourse.
Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow to complete the preliminary series before the fleet moves into the next phase of the championship.
The 2026 ILCA 6 Women’s World Championships run from 5–12 September, with racing hosted off the National Yacht Club and Royal St George Yacht Club in Dún Laoghaire.
