2016 World University Sailing Championship to be held in Perth

Issue date

It has been announced that the 2016 World University Sailing Championship is to be held in Perth.

The dates for the Championship are 25-30 September, 2016, with a practice day planned for 24 September.

The Open category will sail on Foundation 36 yachts with five crew (weight dependant) and the women’s category to be held on Bakewell-White 8m yachts with four crew (weight dependant).

Organisers are currently arranging accommodation for competitors at the University of Western Australia’s University Hall residential college, which is walking distance to the yacht club, and the race course will be on Matilda Bay (right beside the University) with a good spectator viewing area from the banks. Some racing may occur just further out on the Swan River, depending on the wind.

The Championship will also coincide with the 2016 Australian University Games, to be hosted in Perth during the same week.
