2015 Lawson’s Dry Hills New Year Regatta – Waikawa Boating Club

Issue date

The Waikawa Boating Club have just announced Lawson’s Dry Hills will be their Gold sponsor for their 2015 New Year Regatta to be held over the weekend of the 9th to 11th January.

Club Manager, Sue van Velzen says “We are delighted to continue our relationship with Lawson’s Dry Hills, it is unusual in yacht racing to have the continual support over such a long period of time, this will be the eight year running as our key sponsor.  It is fantastic to share their obvious passion for their beautiful wines with our sailing and club community.”

The regatta caters for both spinnaker and white sail divisions with the spinnaker races over short courses and the white sail boats racing to take in more of the scenic Queen Charlotte Sound.  On the Friday evening there will be an opportunity to test final racing trim in a more social race (if such a thing exists between yachts…)

The social program back at the Club each evening promises a good line up of events inviting participation from all crews, more on that later.

With the Sounds being such a popular summer cruising ground it is an ideal opportunity to bring your boats and families and combine cruising with a bit of racing! Mark the date in your racing calendar now, the NOR will be out shortly.  The Club has two marina berths available for visiting boats and the Waikawa Marina Supervisor is very helpful in finding visiting boats berths over the summer.

If you want to spend time ashore there is plenty of local accommodation options and be sure to visit Lawson’s Dry Hills winery for a special tasting.
