2012 YNZ Race Official Seminars and Instructing Courses

Keen to become Race Management, Judging or Umpiring qualified? Ever thought about instructing Learn to Sail?

Dates and details on the winter schedule of YNZ Race Management Seminars  and Sailing Instructor Courses are now on the YNZ website

You do need to register to attend, and as places are limited please try to register by the date indicated on the YNZ website. Registration forms for each of these courses can be downloaded from the respective pages on the site as linked above

All Race Officers, Judging and Umpiring courses are free!!

Race Management Seminars

Race management seminars are targeted at anyone interested in learning or improving the knowledge and skills required to undertake any of the on the water duties to run round the buoys type yacht races. 

 

Judging Level 1- Introduction to Judging
These Seminars offer beginners to Judging an opportunity to learn from more experienced Judges. People with experience across the range are equally catered for including sailors. 

Judging Level 2- National Judging Seminar
These seminars fulfil the requirements for those wishing to qualify as National or Club Judge. For those who wish to take the test to gain Club/ National Judge status, there is an opportunity at the end of the seminar

National Umpires Seminar

This seminar is suitable for anybody with a basic understanding of the rules or Match Racing. This seminar provides a great basis for umpiring at local events, as a step towards a Club Umpire qualification. The first day is focused primarily on the Rules and Appendix C of the Racing Rules of Sailing. Day 2 is much more focused on the practical components of umpiring including boat placement and making calls.

Keelboat Instructor

The Keelboat Instructor Course qualifies you to teach the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail Keelboat course. In order to attend this course, participants are required to be over 18 years old and a member of a yacht club affiliated to YNZ, and a competent sailor with good seamanship skills in a keelboat or similar.

Club Instructor

The Club Instructor Course qualifies you to teach the Yachting New Zealand Learn to Sail Dinghy course. In order to attend this course, participants are required to be over 18 years old (or 15-17 for assistant instructor), a member of a yacht club affiliated to YNZ, and a competent small boat sailor.
