The Akaroa Cruising Club was established in 1964. Through the generosity of a prominent local businessman the Clubhouse was built in its present location, just below the relocated Akaroa Heads Lighthouse.
Today with the amalgamation of the Akaroa Cruising Club and the Akaroa Sailing Club the Akaroa Yacht Club Inc was formed.
The Club also has a dinghy/youth division operating from the Boatshed premises a short walk along the waterfront from the yacht club premises.
The Club’s premises are situated on the water at the western end of Akaroa Village and has a functional and user-friendly clubhouse with a large deck area and long jetty for club members to utilize especially during the racing season which runs from Labour weekend through to early June.
The club has a four-tier membership, active, social, family and junior.
All are encouraged to enjoy the club facilities with visitors especially welcome whenever the clubrooms are open.
