Port Nicholson Regatta

Port Nicholson Regatta more than a sailing event

Issue date

More than 200 sailors from over 20 clubs are expected to converge on Wellington for four days of events at February's 2021 Port Nicholson Regatta.

Hosted by the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club (RPNYC), the Port Nicholson Regatta from February 18-21, 2021 marries a passion for sailing with generous hospitality and a commitment to great experiences both on and off the water.

The Charity Cup Race and regatta dinner will kick things off on Thursday evening, followed by full days of racing on Friday and Saturday, and a half day on Sunday.

All yachts entered in the 2021 regatta will be invited to compete in the Charity Cup Race, and may be requested to host RPNYC guests to thank our sponsors and sailing community (scores for this race do not form part of the overall regatta points).

It will be a fun, short, harbour course starting and finishing at the RPNYC, with specific course and timing details provided at the pre-race briefing. Charity cup prizes will be awarded and donations made to charity during the evening festivities after racing.

As well as Division A, B and C prizes and trophies for the full regatta, there will be trophies for Young 88-designed boats and a trophy for the overall regatta champion.

There will be land-based events like model yacht racing, learning the ‘lingo’ for those getting their eye in for the Americas Cup, boatsheds open to the public, a range of social events and more.

Entries are open to all keelboats, trailer yachts, multihulls, sports multihulls, sports boats and classic yachts (boats built to a pre-1970 design), with early-bird entry fees applicable to November 30, 2020.

See here to find the entry form and notice of race, and follow the Port Nicholson Regatta Facebook page for regular updates.
