Masks

Mask mandates will have impact on clubs

Issue date

Yachting New Zealand encourage clubs to review their operating procedures in light of new guidance from Sport New Zealand, especially around the use of face coverings.

Sport New Zealand updated the regulations on face coverings last week following guidance from the government, and masks are now mandated in more situations than before.

Sport New Zealand take the advice from government and apply to a sporting context so it's recommended clubs check with their guidelines.

You can see the latest one-page table here which outlines the rules for events, gatherings and club activities, including hospitality, depending on whether it's operating under My Vaccine Pass or not.

It also outlines the quality of masks used for participants and staff. It needs to be remembered that customer-facing staff, including all volunteers, need to wear medical-grade masks at events or when working in hospitality.

Clubs should review their operating procedures as these new guidelines have implications for the way they operate and apply to everyone aged 8 years and above. Some areas to think about include:

  • Rigging areas
  • Coaching and coaches
  • Club building / clubrooms
  • Galley, bars, and ward rooms
  • Club meetings (gathering)
  • Customer-facing workers (a worker can be volunteer or paid)

Please contact your regional development manager if you have any questions.
