Mandatory record keeping comes into effect

Issue date

Mandatory record keeping is being introduced for busy places and events to ensure the Government can contact trace quickly.

This change was announced on August 22 and yachting and boating clubs need to be aware this requirement will come into effect for them seven days after the next alert level change.

Yacht clubs will be responsible for having systems and processes in place to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, anyone who enters the premises records their visit.

Places where records are already kept and people are already required to sign in won’t need to adjust what they are already doing.

Please take the time now to ensure your club has a record keeping system and process in place.

Check out the Covid-19 website for more guidance.

It's recommended that community and voluntary organisations use the NZ Covid Tracer App.

This is the fastest way of responding to the virus — the faster we respond, the faster we stop it. The app also keeps people informed of risks.

While displaying a QR code is not mandatory in these situations, it is strongly encouraged you do so.

This includes:

  • voluntary or not-for-profit sporting, recreational, social or cultural activities
  • faith-based gatherings
  • community club activities

Clubs that operate under section 21 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 must still display a QR code.
