Event applications due to host 2020/21 nationals

Issue date

Planning for the next sailing season is in full swing and clubs and class associations are reminded that applications to host national championship events are now due.

Each class affiliated to Yachting New Zealand is automatically granted the right to hold one national championship annually.

Clubs and classes wishing to host a Yachting New Zealand-recognised national championship regatta next season need to be aware event application forms are due in to Yachting New Zealand by June 30, 2020 or no later than six month before the competition - whichever occurs earlier.

There are certain regulations in place for national championship events to ensure there is value in the title of national champion.

These regulations also aim to ensure national and world championship events are sailed in accordance with the practices and procedures that apply to major events and shall be of a uniformly high standard of organisation on the water and on shore. It's also important all New Zealand sailors can be adequately informed of the opportunity to compete for the title of national champion.

The following information must be included:

  • The class(es)
  • The proposed venue of the event
  • The proposed dates of the event
  • The club or other organisation which will form the organising committee to conduct the championship
  • Any other details requested by Yachting New Zealand

The national event application form can be found here.

If you have any queries, please contact your local Yachting New Zealand regional support officer or Colin Rickett at Yachting New Zealand on (09) 361 4028 or colin@yachtingnz.org.nz
