Resources

Yachting New Zealand have put together a number of resources for clubs and organisations to use to support the attraction and retention of females in sailing. This is something we'll add to over time but also let us know if there's something specific you're looking for.

Healthy Women in Sailing

The Healthy Women in Sailing series is aimed at upskilling and educating our sailing girls, parents and coaches so we can all learn how to better support our female sailors.

The online workshop allows us to increase the reach of the series across New Zealand and create a resource that can be used afterwards.

The topics include:

Week 1

Brain health and performance for life and sport: We discuss how to sustain brain health to enhance both quality of life and high performance in sailing.

Nutrition: Fuelling to support growth, development, performance, and life.

Injury prevention in sailing: Tips and tricks to help prevent injuries.

Week 2

Balancing energy costs and having a healthy menstrual cycle: We explore the energy demands of sailing and other commitments and focus on understanding the menstrual cycle and the signs of a healthy cycle.

The journey of the high-performance athlete: Delve into what this means for the athlete in sport and life.

Balanced female health resource from Sport NZ

Sport NZ recognises that female-specific needs in community sport are unique.  As coaches, parents, instructors and administrators, understanding female health is critical to being able to respond and provide support for young people to be active in ways that boost their wellbeing.

Balanced Female Health is a new resource for adults supporting young people in community sport. Developed by health professionals working in the sport sector, this resource covers changes throughout female puberty, the menstrual cycle, and factors that impact the physical health and mental wellbeing of all young people.
