NZ Coastal Policy

The New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement (NZCPS) is a national policy statement under the Resource Management Act 1991 (‘the Act’). The purpose of the NZCPS is to state the policies in order to achieve the purpose  of the Act in relation to the coastal environment of New Zealand. Regional policy statements, regional plans and district plans must give effect to the NZCPS.

Yachting New Zealand are not opposed to aquaculture per se, however aquaculture and much of the activity we promote and protect is mutually exclusive. The physical nature of aquaculture means it will take up space in the marine coastal area that then cannot be used by others and/or will pose navigational hazards in some areas.

YNZ Submissions

Yachting New Zealand provide a collective voice and lobbies central legislative bodies to protect members’ interests.

We focus on issues such as marine farming, sewerage discharges from boats, lifejacket legislation and other environmental, resource management and maritime safety issues.

Below are the most recent submissions made by Yachting New Zealand on behalf of our members:

YNZ statement on 2016 Olympic events

At the conclusion of their mid-year meetings, the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has announced that kiteboarding will replace windsurfing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and that the New Zealand designed MacKay FX (now 49er FX) will be the new Olympic womens’ skiff discipline.

Yachting New Zealand is disappointed with the decision to replace windsurfing, however the announcement has also brought some welcome news for the NZ Sailing Community and Marine Industry through the confirmation of the 49er FX.
