Q & A with Lizzie
How did you get into sailing?
I would watch my brother sail and I decided I wanted to go sailing too. I couldn't wait to start and was asking my parents all the time.
What is your favourite thing to eat after a long day on the water?
Where is your favourite place to sail?
Noumea, New Caledonia because it is warm and windy.
What is your favourite thing to do when not sailing?
Hanging out with friends, but I am always sailing or doing school work so don't get much time.
Who are your role models?
Martine Grael. She has won back to back gold medals in the Olympics in the FX.
What is the best thing about sailing your youth class boat?
It is fast and fun to sail and there is some good fleet racing in a big fleet.
What do you hope to achieve in sailing in the next 12 months?
A podium finish at the youth worlds or open worlds.
How will you prepare for the youth sailing world championships and which regattas will you be attending in the lead-up?
We have identified some areas that we will be focussing on in training. We will be competing in the NZ 29er Nationals and Europeans before Youth Worlds and Open Worlds.
What are your sailing career goals?
To win a medal at the Olympics sailing the FX.
What are the proudest moments of your sailing to date, and tell us how you felt?
Getting second overall at Auckland Champs in January 2022. We have not competed internationally yet. I enjoyed beating the boy crews.
