SeaLink relocating to Westhaven Marina

Issue date

The ferry operator SeaLink is relocating and will be operating from the eastern edge of Westhaven Marina from Wednesday, November 6.

SeaLink primarily services Waiheke and Great Barrier Islands, along with other parts of the Hauraki Gulf, with transportation of vehicles, passengers and freight.

Large vessels such as the SeaLink barges require significant space to manoeuvre, particularly in heavy weather. There will be 8-14 vessel movements a day, taking about two minutes each time, and during this time all vessels should hold, avoid the entrance and stay at least 100m away from SeaLink vessels.

Warning lights will be in place to tell boaties when SeaLink is about to arrive or depart.

Coming from Wynyard Wharf, the company is already an expert at navigating its vessels in tight areas, and is working closely with Panuku and the Auckland Harbourmaster on its relocation.

SeaLink’s relocation from its current base in Wynyard Wharf has been made necessary by the developments in this area relating not only to the 36th America’s Cup but to the long term plans for the Waterfront, in keeping marine based industry in the Wynyard Precinct.
