The public will get a chance to explore the Southern Hemisphere's biggest marina during the Westhaven Marina Day on March 19 (11am-3pm).
Westhaven's clubs and operators have come together to make the day happen, giving the public the chance to take marina tours on the Watchman, fish off J Pier, enjoy boat displays (including a surprise guest), stallholders and activities, opportunities to try sailing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in St Marys Bay, free facepainting, balloons and even a pirate ship bouncy castle, free sausage sizzles, live music and free mini-bus transport to get everyone around.
Please dress for the weather and in suitable clothing if you want to try boating activities. Sports gear is great - jeans are not. There should be plenty of parking but please only use the white spaces (yellow spaces are reserved for permit holders).
Most activities are free:
Music featuring Superhero Second Line and Ukelele Union
Pirate ship bouncy castle, balloon crafts and face painting
Marine car boot sale - some great deals
Try sailing, and find out how to get into it
Try fishing with Legasea! (it's the only day of the year you can legitimately fish inside Westhaven)
Try kayaking, SUP and knot tying
Climb aboard the Ponsonby Cruising Club's boat, The Watchman, for a boat tour of the marina
Behind the scenes marina tours - get past the security gates and explore with a Westhaven guide!
