Judy Julian of New Plymouth Yacht Club was awarded the Sport Taranaki Volunteer of the Month in June. She is valued for the tremendous amount of work she does at the club and at events they host.
Judy was the event secretary for the 2012 Optimist National Championships in April, responsible for all database entries, the finances for the event, results and scheduling of meetings over the week-long event. Yachting New Zealand nominated Judy for the time she put in as a volunteer.
More than70 new young sailors with a disability gave sailing a go on Friday June 8th and a further 20 people with a disability came out on Sunday June 10th at the Waitara Boating Club in Taranaki. This was the largest single try sailing event for sailors with a disability in New Zealand to date.
Sailing Wanganui is a family orientated club with the aim of providing sailing opportunities to all. There is a structured junior sailing program run at Pauri Lake for school children in years 7 and 8. Other programs are run as and when demand requires, and at the moment the Club is running a secondary school coaching program on Wednesday afternoons. It may continue over the winter if required. The Waitara Boating Club is situated near the mouth of the Waitara River, 20km north of New Plymouth. Sheltered waters on the river allow sailing in most conditions, with club members sailing Optimist, P Class, Starling, Laser and open dinghy classes. Junior learn to sail is available in the club owned Optimist training dinghy’s.
We are a family oriented sailing club in New Plymouth, New Zealand. We run regular round-the-buoys racing for all centre-board and trailer yacht classes on Saturdays. The junior fleets racing in the mornings and the senior fleet in the afternoon.
The club season runs from October until April and offers Learn to Sail courses for children and adults.
