Recreational boaties and yachties visiting the Northland region are assured of safe access to popular anchorages, harbour entrances, bays of refuge and navigational routes thanks to the collective advocacy efforts of Yachting New Zealand, the Auckland Yachting & Boating (AYBA) and Northland Yachting Associations.
This is a special early Regatta Ramblings to give you a ‘heads up’. 2017 Bay Regatta will be holding the IRC Nationals for the second year in a row, however this time there will be three divisions; IRC Class One for the 50 footers in A Division, IRC Class Two for B Division and for the first time, IRC Class Three for the smaller boats from D and E Divisions - they will be racing in IRC C Division – e.g. 1020s, MRX, Namu-type, or any boat that will fit into the smaller IRC bracket.
In the second week of the school holidays the Bay of Islands Yacht Club are offering a training program for youth classes including the Laser Radial, 420, 29er, windsurfers and catamarans.
The 2016 Jollyboat Nationals were sailed in the Bay of Islands alongside the 3.7 Nationals. The friendly hospitality of BOIYC went down well with both classes and the visiting youth sailors attending the inter schools champs over the weekend. Sumptuous food, including some beautifully smoked king fish, provided the foundation for a healthy and family friendly apres sail environment
