Yachting New Zealand has worked with clubs and various parties involved in Maritime Safety to provide members with safety guidelines and advice in a document titled Club Safety Responsibilities Guide.
If your club has in place risk management plans, safety procedures or policies that may be of use to other clubs we would appreciate a copy to share amongst clubs.
This is an area of growing concern for us all and although we have a rule relating to skipper responsibility it does not exempt the club from their own responsibilities to consider the risks to participants and work to minimise or identify risks that could have significant consequences.
We urge all clubs and members to consider their own operations, the safety of their members and the potential for liability. The Microsoft Word documents below were produced in the guide and sent to all member clubs, classes and regional yachting associations.
