NZ Coastal Policy

The New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement (NZCPS) is a national policy statement under the Resource Management Act 1991 (‘the Act’). The purpose of the NZCPS is to state the policies in order to achieve the purpose  of the Act in relation to the coastal environment of New Zealand. Regional policy statements, regional plans and district plans must give effect to the NZCPS.

There are many areas of interest to boaties and yacht clubs that the NZCPS will have an impact on including the preservation of the natural character of the coastal environment, developments, aquaculture, activities in the coastal environment, ports and access to the coastal environment.

More information on the policy or to download it in full see the Department of Conservation website
