COMMODORE’S CORNER
Welcome to the first spring Mainsheet. Now is the time for all those summer preparations to be under way - boats to be prepared and trailers to be checked and serviced. Above all, it’s about now that we need to be looking at the calendar and reserving some sea time. Our best laid sailing plans can get lost in the rush that develops as other summer activities start to occupy weekends and the holiday season approaches.
The Richmond Spring regatta is always a fun event. Entries are available from Richmond YC. Note also the WTYS dinghy expedition up Henderson Creek to Tui Glen.
It is inspiring to read Phil’s account of sailing in Tongan waters. As the days lengthen and warm, I know I am chafing at the bit more and more to get out on the water and feel the sea breeze on my face once again.
If you would like to join up with others on your summer cruise, you could communicate your plans to the Mainsheet and see if there are others who heading in the same direction. Some of us are planning to head for the Bay of Islands around Christmas.
See you on the water.
